overview

This large aquarium is located in Motobu Town in the northern part of Okinawa's main island. Its highlight is the whale sharks and manta rays that swim in the vast "Kuroshio Sea" tank, and it is a facility where you can learn about Okinawa's rich marine ecosystem and culture. It is popular with a wide range of visitors, from families to divers.

Highlights

  • Kuroshio Sea: A school of whale sharks seen through one of the world's largest acrylic panels
  • Manatee House and Coral Exhibit: A detailed introduction to the ecosystem off the coast of Okinawa
  • Dolphin shows and touch pools: fun experiences for children

access

It takes about two hours by express bus from Naha Airport, and renting a car is convenient. There are also local bus routes to Nago City and Motobu Town, and there are ample parking lots and information on the surrounding area.

Estimated stay

It takes about 2-3 hours to tour the facility, but if you combine it with the dolphin show, the surrounding beaches, and the Fukugi tree-lined streets of Bise, we recommend a half-day to full-day visit.

Nearby spots

  • Bise Fukugi Tree Line (Motobu Town)
  • Nakijin Castle Ruins (Nakijin Village)
  • Sesoko Island (Motobu Town, accessible by bridge)

Points to note

It tends to get crowded on weekends and holidays, and it may take time to purchase tickets and park. In the summer, the sun is strong and the temperature is high, so please bring drinking water and sun protection. The museum may be closed temporarily in bad weather or during typhoons.
