Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Mount Buko, located in Yokoze Town, Chichibu District, Saitama Prefecture, is one of the iconic mountains of the Chichibu region. Standing at around 1,300 meters above sea level, it is characterized by its distinctive, sharp mountain shape and the remains of limestone mining on its slopes. Deeply connected to limestone mining and cement production since ancient times, it has played an industrial role with modernization since the Meiji era. However, natural forests remain at the base of the mountain and along the mountain trails, making it a popular destination for hikers and worshippers. The view from the summit is excellent, and on clear days, you can see the Chichibu Basin and the distant Kanto Plain, and even Mount Fuji if conditions are favorable. Mount Buko's unique shape, natural scenery, and the opportunity to see human activity are what make it so appealing.
