Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Yokohama Landmark Tower is a landmark skyscraper located in the Minato Mirai 21 district of Nishi-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. Completed and opened in 1993, it stands 296.3 meters tall with 70 floors above ground and three below. Formerly the tallest building in Japan (until 2014), it is home to the Yokohama Royal Park Hotel on its upper floors, while the lower floors are home to the Landmark Plaza commercial facility, offices, and restaurants. A major attraction is the Sky Garden observation deck (69th and 70th floors), which offers views of the entire Yokohama Port area, Minato Mirai, and, on clear days, Mount Fuji and Tokyo's skyscrapers.

Highlights

  • Sky Garden (observation deck): You can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view from the indoor observation deck. The beauty of the night view is particularly well-received, and the time from sunset to night (magic hour) is especially popular.
  • High-speed elevator: The maximum speed is among the fastest in Japan (approximately 12.5 m/s), and the experience of reaching the higher floors in a short amount of time is one of the highlights.
  • Landmark Plaza: Enjoy shopping and dining at this fashion, general goods, cafe, and restaurant area. Seasonal events and illuminations are also held here.
  • High-rise hotel view: We also recommend the views from the restaurants and rooms at Yokohama Royal Park Hotel (you can enjoy the view from a different perspective by staying overnight or dining).

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station:Minatomirai Station or Bashamichi Station on the Minatomirai Line, Sakuragicho Station on the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line and Yokohama Municipal Subway.
  • Walking and Transfer Guide: It is directly connected to Minatomirai Station via an underground passageway and is just a few minutes' walk away, and about a 10-minute walk from Sakuragicho Station (we also recommend walking while strolling through the park and along the canal).
  • Access by carAccessible from the Shuto Expressway Bayshore Route and Yokohama Shindo. There are paid parking lots in the area, but it gets crowded on weekends and in the evenings, so it's best to use public transportation.
  • From the airport or from afar: It is convenient to take the JR train from Tokyo Station to Yokohama Station, then transfer to the Minatomirai Line at Yokohama Station (or take the direct line to Minatomirai in some cases). Travel time varies depending on the departure point.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Sky Garden only: 30 minutes to 1 hour (viewing and photography)
  • Half-day trip including shopping and cafe use: 2-4 hours
  • If you are visiting the surrounding museums and Red Brick Warehouse: Half a day to a full day

Nearby spots

  • Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse (Shopping and Events)
  • Cosmo World (Large Ferris wheel "Cosmo Clock 21")
  • Cup Noodles Museum (experience-based museum)
  • Yokohama Museum of Art
  • Pacifico Yokohama (Convention Center)
  • Yamashita Park and Osanbashi Pier (port walking spot)

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • congestion: The observation deck and the museum will be crowded on weekends, consecutive holidays, and in the evenings from sunset to night view. Please allow plenty of time for your visit as you may have to wait.
  • Visibility due to weather: The view from the observation deck is dependent on the weather. Cloudy days, rain, spring yellow sand, and PM2.5 can make Mount Fuji invisible, so it's best to aim for a clear day.
  • Business hours and fees: Opening hours and admission fees vary depending on the observation deck and store. Please check the official website in advance for the latest opening hours and fees.
  • Manners: Please be quiet on the observation deck and indoor facilities, and be considerate not to occupy them for long periods of time or disturb other visitors. Many areas within the facilities are completely non-smoking.
  • Barrier-free: The building is barrier-free with elevators and multi-purpose toilets, but it's best to check the official website for details.
  • Preventing cold at night: If you plan to enjoy the night view for a long time, please bring a jacket as the wind can be strong and cold along the coast.

*Please be sure to check the official Yokohama Landmark Tower website or on-site information for the latest opening hours, fees, event information, temporary closures due to facility inspections, etc.
