Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Chinzanso is a facility in Tokyo's Bunkyo Ward that combines a famous garden with a luxury hotel and wedding hall. Despite being located in the heart of the city, it is known for its abundant nature and undulating strolling garden, where visitors can enjoy seasonal scenery such as cherry blossoms in spring, camellias in early winter, and autumn leaves. The Japanese garden, which is home to some of the largest trees in Tokyo, waterfalls, and ponds, is perfect for strolling, and is bustling with photography enthusiasts, tourists, and visitors for weddings and banquets.

Highlights

  • Japanese garden walking path: Enjoy seasonal plants while walking around ponds, waterfalls, and stone bridges. The garden's undulating and sculptural beauty will help you forget the hustle and bustle of the city.
  • Camellias: As the name of the garden suggests, there are many camellias, and different types of flowers can be seen from early spring to winter. The camellia season is particularly picturesque.
  • Cherry blossoms and autumn leaves: The cherry blossom season and autumn leaves are spectacular, and the entire garden is bathed in vibrant colors. There are also illuminations and limited-time events.
  • Waterfall and pond: The waterfall and pond in the center of the garden are a great photo spot. The sound of the water and the contrast of the greenery are beautiful.
  • Hotel Facilities and Restaurants: Enjoy meals and tea time while looking out at the gardens in the luxury hotel's restaurants and lounges. The wedding venue's decorations are also a highlight.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: Gokokuji Station or Edogawabashi Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line (approximately 7-12 minutes on foot)
  • From JR and private railways: From Ikebukuro and Mejiro, it is convenient to take a taxi or transfer to the subway.
  • Bus/Car: There are local buses and paid parking lots in the area. If you are coming by car, you can use the hotel's parking lot (fee required). Please allow plenty of time as it may take some time to enter and exit the parking lot during busy times.
  • Note: The time required from the nearest station varies depending on your walking speed and route. We recommend using public transportation as it can be crowded on days when there are many events or weddings.

  • Garden walk + cafe and snacks: about 2 hours
  • Relaxing time, including dining at the restaurant and taking photos: 3-4 hours

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: It gets crowded during the peak seasons for cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, and camellias, as well as on weekends and holidays. If you want to enjoy the view at a quieter pace, we recommend visiting on a weekday or early in the morning.
  • Weddings and private rentals: The gardens and some facilities may be used for weddings or private rentals. Please check the official website or contact us before visiting to confirm availability.
  • Admission Fees and Opening Hours: Public opening hours, admission fees, and information on illuminations and other events may change depending on the season and events. Be sure to check the official website for the latest information.
  • Manners: Walk quietly within the gardens and avoid touching plants and structures. Eating, drinking, partying, and smoking may be prohibited outside of designated areas.
  • Regarding photography: Personal photography is generally not a problem, but commercial photography and the use of tripods may require prior application. Please be considerate and not disturb others.
  • Seasonal clothing: The garden has many shady areas and undulating paths. In rainy weather, the ground can be slippery, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the temperature changes.
