Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Kakitagawa Park (Shimizu Town, Sunto District, Shizuoka Prefecture) is a park developed around the Kakitagawa Springs, where underground water from Mount Fuji springs up. The spring water is highly transparent and characterized by its cold, clear flow. The clear streams, which are formed by the abundant underground water, support the local ecosystem and are popular tourist attractions. The park is equipped with observation decks and walking paths, allowing you to observe the natural waterscape up close, as well as enjoy the changing scenery of the seasons (fresh greenery, cool summer, autumn leaves, and the tranquility of winter).
Highlights
- The clarity of the spring water and riverbed: Crystal clear spring water gushes out from various places, and the shallow riverbed is beautifully visible. Just observing the color and flow of the water is a delight.
- Observation Deck and Promenade: From the wooden decks and promenades set up along the river, you can get a close-up look at the state of the spring water, the flow, and the fish swimming below. There are also plenty of photo spots.
- Small waterfalls and springs: There are many springs and small waterfalls scattered around, allowing you to feel the changes in the flow and the force of the spring water.
- Vegetation and bird watching: You can observe plants that are unique to waterside areas and the wild birds that visit them. Walk quietly and you can feel the breathing of the creatures.
- Visitor facilities: Information boards and explanatory displays are available, allowing visitors to learn about the origins of spring water and the importance of nature conservation. (Please check the availability of information desks and restrooms, as well as opening hours.)
