Hinomisaki Shrine is an ancient seaside shrine located on Cape Hinomisaki in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. Situated on a cliff jutting out into the sea, it is characterized by its location overlooking the Pacific Ocean (Sea of Japan), its vermilion-painted shrine building, and its landscape washed by the sea breeze, and has long been a popular place of worship where people pray for safe fishing and voyages. The approach and shrine building have a combination of Japanese beauty and solemnity, and the shrine is known as a particularly famous spot for sunsets, making it popular with photography enthusiasts and tourists.

- Nearest major station: Izumo-shi Station on the JR Sanin Main Line.
- Public transportation: Accessible by local bus (tourist route and local route) from Izumo-shi Station. Routes and schedules change depending on the season and day of the week, so please check the timetable in advance.
- Access by car: Approximately 20-40 minutes by car from the center of Izumo city (depending on traffic conditions and starting point). Parking is available (limited space).
- From the airport: It is about 20-30 minutes by car from Izumo Airport. Renting a car is convenient.
- Taxis and tourist buses: Tours and taxis that stop off as part of a sightseeing route are also common.

- Short tour: Visiting the shrine and taking a quick stroll around the area takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Leisurely sightseeing: If you include the view of the lighthouse and cape, taking photos, and walking around the area (rocky areas and walking trails), the tour will take about 1.5 to 2 hours.
- Combining it with nearby tourist attractions: We recommend incorporating it into a half-day to full-day itinerary, including visits to Izumo Taisha Shrine and Inasa Beach.

- Hinomisaki Lighthouse: The iconic lighthouse on the cape. Recommended for views and photography.
- Inasa Beach: This coastline is also associated with Izumo mythology, and you can enjoy the sunset and strolling along the sandy beach.
- Izumo Taisha: One of Japan's largest shrines. It is within driving distance and many people visit it in addition to praying.
- Izumo tourist spots (such as the Ancient Izumo History Museum): Facilities where you can learn about the culture and history of the Izumo region.
Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Crowds: It can get crowded on weekends, consecutive holidays, national holidays, and tourist seasons (spring travel season, summer vacation, autumn foliage season, Golden Week, etc.). It's especially likely to be crowded around sunset time.
- Manners: Please observe basic shrine worship etiquette (bow at the torii gate, purify yourself at the temizuya, and observe proper etiquette when worshiping). Also, there may be areas within the shrine or festival area where photography is prohibited. Please follow the signs and be considerate of other worshippers.
- Footing and clothing: The cape is windy, and there are places with poor footing and steep stairs and steps. Wear comfortable walking shoes and be careful as the ground can be slippery in strong winds or rain.
- Weather: The weather at the beach is changeable, and rough weather and high waves can be dangerous in winter. Access to walking paths and rocky areas may be restricted, so please follow local signs.
- Parking and Toilets: There are parking lots and public toilets, but they may be full during busy times. It's a good idea to bring some drinks and sun protection (in summer).
