Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Komuroyama Park is a park developed around the summit and base of Mount Komuro in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture. You can easily reach the summit by lift (Komuroyama Lift), and from the top you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Ito city, Sagami Bay, and the Izu Islands. In spring, the slopes are famous for the azaleas that bloom all over the park, and it is a popular azalea spot, attracting many tourists. With a large lawn and walking paths, it is a great spot for hiking, picnics, and photography. The changing scenery with each season is an attractive feature, and on sunny days you can enjoy the contrast between the sea and the mountains.

Highlights

  • Summit view: Take the lift or the mountain trail to the top for a 360-degree view. You can see Ito city, Sagami Bay, and the Izu Islands, and on clear days the distant mountains and sea are spectacular.
  • Azalea Slope (Spring): During the "Azalea Festival" the slope is dyed in pink and red flowers, making it the perfect place for a stroll and to take photos.
  • Lawn Square and Observation Deck: Convenient for picnics with families or groups. Relax and enjoy the scenery.
  • Walking trails and nature observation: There are hiking trails for beginners, where you can enjoy observing seasonal plants and wild birds.
  • Komuroyama Lift: A means of transportation that gives you the feeling of walking in the air to the summit. It is popular because you can enjoy the scenery at your leisure (it may be suspended due to weather).

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: The park is especially busy during the spring azalea season, Golden Week, and weekends. Parking and lift wait times can be long, so we recommend arriving early.
  • Weather: The wind is strong near the summit and the temperature feels low. The weather can change suddenly, so please bring warm clothing and rain gear. The lifts may be closed due to strong winds or bad weather.
  • Clothing and equipment: Wear comfortable shoes when walking along the trails. Bring sun protection (a hat and sunscreen) and drinks to feel safe.
  • Nature Conservation and Manners: Please be considerate of other visitors and the environment, such as not damaging flowers and plants, always taking your trash with you, and following designated rules for pets.
  • Check facility information: Lift operating times, fees, and events (such as the Azalea Festival) may change annually. Please check the official website or tourist information for the latest information before visiting.
