Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Fuji Safari Park is a large safari park located in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It takes advantage of its location at the foot of Mount Fuji to offer a natural environment where visitors can observe a wide variety of animals up close. Since opening in the Showa period, the park has offered a variety of ways to enjoy itself throughout the year, including a "drive-through safari" where visitors can tour the park while remaining in their car, as well as guided bus tours, a petting zoo, and a night safari. One of the park's greatest attractions is the wide range of animals that can be observed, from large carnivores like lions and tigers to herbivores like zebras and giraffes, and friendly small animals.
Highlights
- Drive-Thru Safari: Experience touring the animal habitats in your own car or the park's safari bus. The thrill and excitement of seeing the animals up close from the car window is what makes it so appealing (there may be an area where you can feed them).
- Safari Bus Guided Tour: For those who don't have a car or want to visit safely. Learn about the ecology of the animals and what to see with commentary from the zookeepers.
- Petting Area/Small Animal Corner: A corner where you can touch rabbits, guinea pigs, and other animals. Popular with families with children.
- Close-up observation of the carnivore area: Observe lions, tigers, and other animals through the fence. If you time your visit to coincide with their behavioral exhibits or feeding times, you can see them being very active.
- Seasonal Event: Night Safari: Depending on the season, there may be a night safari open at night, or special seasonal exhibitions and events (events may vary depending on the season).
- Location overlooking Mt. Fuji: If the weather is good, you can take photos of animals with Mount Fuji in the background, which is one of the attractions.

- Manners: Please follow the instructions of the zookeepers while inside the zoo. It is especially important to observe basic etiquette, such as not opening windows wide in the drive-through area, not getting out of your car, and not doing anything that might startle the animals (yelling, throwing objects, etc.).
- Feeding: Feeding is permitted in designated places, times, and methods, so please be sure to follow the instructions of the staff. Feeding animals without permission may be prohibited.
- About pets: Generally, pets are not allowed. Please check the facility's regulations for details.
- Season/Clothing: Temperatures can vary greatly depending on the altitude and weather. In summer, be sure to protect yourself from the sun and stay hydrated, and in winter, dress warmly. Some facilities and events may be canceled in the event of rain.
- Caution for those with childrenIf you are bringing small children, please be sure to ensure their safety in the car and while touring (use child seats, keep an eye on them, etc.).
- photo shoot: Photography is permitted, but please be careful not to startle the animals with flashes or lights.
