Cape Soya is located at the northernmost tip of Hokkaido and is a major tourist destination in Wakkanai City. The cape is home to the "Northernmost Point of Japan Monument," making it a popular spot for visitors to take commemorative photos. It has strong geographical and symbolic significance, and the scenery overlooking the north, and on clear days, Sakhalin (Karafuto) can be seen with the naked eye on the far opposite shore, along with the magnificent ocean views and desolate breeze.
The area is also home to a statue of explorer Mamiya Rinzo, a lighthouse, monuments, souvenir shops and restaurants, making it a popular tourist destination. Visitors are drawn to the feeling of having reached the northernmost point of Japan, as well as the unique atmosphere of the northern latitudes and cold climate.
