Abe Monjuin Temple, located in Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture, is a temple dedicated to Manjusri Bodhisattva (the Buddha of wisdom). Since ancient times, it has been visited by many pilgrims praying for academic success and the bestowal of wisdom, and is known for its belief in the proverb "Three heads are better than one." The temple grounds include the main hall, a tranquil garden, and historic stonework, creating picturesque scenery during the spring flowers and autumn foliage seasons. Many people visit to pray, copy sutras, and pray for success in exams, and it is also a popular base for touring Nara's ancient temples and shrines.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: JR and Kintetsu Sakurai Station (Sakurai Station is the nearest station for both).
  • Access from the station: Approximately 5-10 minutes by taxi from Sakurai Station, or 15-25 minutes on foot (depending on your physical strength and the route you take). There may also be local buses operating, so please check the timetable and route in advance.
  • By car: Accessible from Osaka and Nara via national and prefectural roads. Parking lots may be available, but please be aware that the number of spaces is limited during peak seasons.
