Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Ogaki Castle (Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture) is a flatland castle (a castle located on flat land) that originated in the Sengoku period and flourished during the Edo period as the seat of government for the Ogaki domain, along with the castle town. The castle is characterized by the moat and stone walls surrounding it, as well as the views from the castle tower (the current tower has been restored and rebuilt), and it was once one of the important bases related to the Battle of Sekigahara. Today, the castle tower houses historical documents and exhibits as a museum, and the castle site has been converted into a park, providing a place of relaxation for local residents to enjoy the changing scenery of the seasons (cherry blossoms, fresh greenery, autumn leaves, etc.).
