Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Nagoya Castle is a representative castle tourist destination located in the center of Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. Developed as the residence of the Owari Tokugawa family during the Edo period, its imposing castle tower with a shining golden "kinshachi" (golden shachi) on the roof is its symbol. While most of the castle was destroyed in air raids during World War II, the castle tower was rebuilt with reinforced concrete after the war, and in recent years restoration work on historical architecture, such as the wooden reconstruction of the Honmaru Palace, has been progressing. You can view exhibits and cultural assets that convey the splendor of the time. The castle, outer moat, and gardens create beautiful scenery throughout the seasons, making it a popular place for tourists as well as a place of relaxation for local residents.
