Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Tomogashima is a collective name for a group of small islands floating off the coast of Kada in Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture. They are known as "Laputa Island" and "Island of Ruins" due to the remains of the gun batteries and tunnels that were built during the Meiji period as a defense base for Osaka Bay. The island is known for its unique landscape, which is interwoven with rich nature, seascapes, and old concrete remains, making it a popular tourist destination for ruin lovers, photography enthusiasts, and hikers.
