Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Senshu Park is a public park located in the center of Akita City, Akita Prefecture. It was created on the site of the castle keep of Kubota Castle (the residence of the Kubota Domain and Satake clan) during the Edo period. Parts of the stone walls and moat remain, giving the park a sense of the castle ruins. In addition, the park is planted with seasonal plants and is known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. Close to the city center, it is a popular spot for strolling, photography, picnics, and historical walks, and is loved by locals and tourists alike.

Highlights

  • Main enclosure ruins, stone walls, and moat remains: The stonework and topography unique to castle ruins remain, allowing you to experience the historical atmosphere.
  • Cherry Blossoms (Spring): Many cherry blossoms are planted within the park, and the area is bustling with people enjoying cherry blossom viewing during the peak season.
