Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine is a historic shrine located in Sumiyoshi Ward, Osaka City, and is the head shrine of all Sumiyoshi shrines across the country. According to the shrine's history, it was founded in ancient times and has long been worshipped as the god of maritime traffic and safe navigation. The main shrine, which still retains the unique shrine architectural style known as "Sumiyoshi-zukuri," has been designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
Its distinctive features include the vermilion-lacquered shrine building, the four main halls standing side by side, and the arched bridge (Sorihashi) that spans the approach to the shrine, all of which are attractive garden-like grounds that retain a Japanese atmosphere and tranquility.Traditional events and festivals are also popular, allowing you to experience ancient religious culture while feeling the change of seasons.

- Nearest station (on foot): Approximately 3 minutes on foot from Sumiyoshi-Taisha Station on the Nankai Electric Railway (closest access).
- Other stations: Approximately 5-7 minutes on foot from Sumiyoshi Station on the Hankai Electric Tramway (streetcar line). Approximately 10-15 minutes on foot from Sumiyoshi Station on the JR Hanwa Line.

- From Namba (Nankai Namba): Approximately 5-10 minutes (1-2 stops) on the Nankai Line.
- From Tennoji: Approximately 15-20 minutes by Hankai Electric Railway or bus.
- From Kansai Airport: Take the Nankai Railway (Airport Line → Nankai Main Line) and transfer at Namba Station. Total time is approximately 50-70 minutes.
- By car: There are parking lots in the area, but it can get crowded on busy days (such as New Year's visits and festival periods) so we recommend using public transportation.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Crowds: The shrine gets very crowded during events such as New Year's (year-end and New Year holidays) and the Sumiyoshi Festival in July. Please allow plenty of time for worship and photography, so please visit with plenty of time.
- Caution on the arched bridge: The arched bridge is steep and slippery, so please be especially careful if you are wearing heels, traveling with children, or are elderly. It is best not to attempt to cross it in bad weather.
- Worship Manners: Please observe basic shrine etiquette, such as bowing once before passing through the torii gate, purifying your hands and mouth at the temizuya (purifying the chozuya), bowing twice, clapping twice, and bowing once when praying.
- Photography: Generally, photography is permitted within the temple grounds, but please be mindful not to disturb the worship hall or visitors. There may be restrictions on photography during festivals or prayer services.
- Eating, drinking, and smoking: Please refrain from eating, drinking, or smoking within the temple grounds except in designated areas.
- Clothing: As this is a sacred place, it is best to avoid wearing clothes that are too revealing.
