Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Kurume Castle (Kurume Castle Ruins) is the remains of a castle located in the center of Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, which was developed as the administrative center of the Kurume Domain during the Edo period. After the Meiji Restoration, much of the castle was demolished, but the castle ruins have now been preserved and maintained as a park, where remains such as stone walls, earthworks, and the remains of the main citadel can be seen. Located on flat ground close to the city, it is easy to visit, and the scenery changes with the seasons (especially the cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves) are attractive. There are also spots from the castle ruins where you can see the Kurume cityscape, making it a good base for sightseeing in the city along with historical walks.
Highlights
