Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Aqua Toto Gifu, the World Freshwater Aquarium, is one of Japan's leading aquariums specializing in freshwater ecosystems. It recreates and exhibits freshwater creatures and their habitats, including river flows, lakes, and wetlands, and is unique in that it integrates exhibits with conservation, research, and education. The museum recreates freshwater bodies around the world, including Japanese rivers, Asia, and the Amazon, by theme, and also offers a comprehensive educational program featuring rare species, as well as specimens and explanations. Experience the river with exhibits that show schools of fish swimming in large tanks and currents, and visitors of all ages can enjoy learning about the diversity and importance of freshwater ecosystems.

Highlights
- Regional river recreations: This exhibit shows the clear, midstream, and downstream environments of Japan's rivers in stages, allowing visitors to easily learn about the lives of the fish and aquatic insects that inhabit them.
- Freshwater Areas of the World: In large aquariums modeled after Asia (Mekong, etc.) and South America (Amazon), you can observe freshwater fish of different colors and shapes.
- Large aquarium and schooling exhibit: Experience the movements of schools of fish and the power of large species up close in the large aquarium.
- Touch pool and experience corner: Some areas have corners where you can actually touch and observe the animals, which is popular with children (operation status may change depending on the season and events).
- Introduction to breeding, rearing, and research activities: There are plenty of exhibits and explanations about conservation and breeding efforts, as well as activities to protect endangered species. It is also suitable for educational visits.
