Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Shimoda Aquarium is located on the coast of Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Its appeal lies in its outdoor exhibits set against the backdrop of the white sandy sea and harbor, as well as performances by marine life such as dolphins and sea lions. It mainly exhibits creatures found in the coastal waters of the region, and is known as a facility where visitors can learn about marine ecosystems and conservation through observation and learning. Taking advantage of its location facing the sea, the aquarium is packed with interactive content, including a touch pool and hands-on programs, making it popular with families, couples, and ocean lovers.
