Mimuroto-ji Temple (Uji, Kyoto Prefecture) is an ancient temple that has long been a place of worship for local people, known for its beautiful natural scenery throughout the four seasons. It is particularly famous as the "Hydrangea Temple," with thousands of hydrangeas planted within its grounds, and in June, the temple is filled with colorful flowers in full bloom. You can enjoy the scenery of each season, with fresh greenery and azaleas in spring, hydrangeas in summer, autumn leaves in autumn, and snowscapes in winter. The nighttime illuminations and the view of the approach to the temple are also popular, attracting many photography enthusiasts and tourists.

- Hydrangea Garden: Peak season is mid- to late June. With a wide variety of varieties and colors, the garden is laid out in a way that can be enjoyed while strolling.
- Autumn leaves: In autumn (around November), the temple grounds are colored with bright red leaves, and are sometimes lit up.
- The main hall, temple grounds, and gardens: The historical buildings, ponds, and stonework create a unique atmosphere that changes with the seasons.
- Photo spots: The approach to the temple, the stone steps, and the temple architecture seen through the flowers are popular photo spots.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- Nearest station: JR Uji Station or Keihan Uji Station. From the station, we recommend walking, or taking a local bus or taxi.
- Bus: There is a bus bound for Mimuroto-ji Temple from Uji Station (the number of buses varies depending on the season and schedule). It is a few minutes' walk from the bus stop.
- Walking: It takes about 20-30 minutes to walk from the station. There are slopes and stone steps, so it is recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes.
- By car: There are parking lots in the area, but it can get crowded during peak times (hydrangea and autumn foliage season), so we recommend using public transportation.
Estimated stay (estimated time required)
- Short time: A quick tour of the temple grounds takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
- Standard: Approximately 1 to 1.5 hours if you take photos and stroll around at a leisurely pace.
- During busy periods and events: If you want to enjoy the illuminations and avoid the crowds, it is best to plan at least two hours to see the sights.

- Byodo-in Temple (World Heritage Site, Phoenix Hall): A famous spot representing Uji. It is easily accessible from Mimuroto-ji Temple, making it an easy place to visit both places.
- Ujikami Shrine (World Heritage Site): An ancient shrine, the tourist route that combines it with Byodoin Temple is popular.
- Uji River and Asagiri Bridge area: Enjoy a stroll, the riverside scenery, and Uji tea at a teahouse.
- Tale of Genji Museum and Tea House: A facility where you can experience Uji culture and tea.
Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Crowds: It gets very crowded during the hydrangea season (June) and the autumn leaves season (November). If you go early in the morning or on a weekday, you can enjoy the view at a leisurely pace.
- Visitor etiquette: Please remain quiet within the temple grounds. There are areas inside the main hall and other buildings where photography and eating and drinking are prohibited, so please follow the signs.
- Footing and clothing: The temple grounds have many slopes and stone steps. Wear comfortable shoes and be careful as it can be slippery in rainy weather.
- Barrier-free access: There are many steps and stairs, and some areas are difficult for wheelchair users to navigate. Please inquire in advance to ensure accessibility.
- Weather and seasonal precautions: It rains a lot during the rainy season, so bring an umbrella and rain gear. Prepare for the heat in summer and the cold in winter.
- Garbage and Environmental Conservation: Please take care of the natural environment in the area and temple by taking your trash with you and not touching the flowers and plants too much.
