Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Expo '70 Commemorative Park is a vast urban park in Suita City, Osaka Prefecture, created on the site of the 1970 World Exposition (EXPO '70). The park is dotted with attractions, including the Tower of the Sun, designed by Taro Okamoto and the symbol of the park, as well as the spacious Natural and Cultural Gardens, Japanese Garden, EXPO '70 Pavilion, and the National Museum of Ethnology. The park's attractions include the ability to enjoy flowers and greenery throughout the seasons, and the coexistence of historical heritage and modern facilities.

Highlights

  • Tower of the Sun (Tower of the Sun): A symbol of the Expo. You can freely tour the exterior. However, the "Interior Exhibition" inside may require advance reservations or numbered tickets, so it is recommended to check in advance.
  • natural culture garden: With a vast lawn, flower fields, and playground equipment, it's perfect for picnics and strolls. Cherry blossoms in spring, roses in early summer, and cosmos and autumn leaves in autumn are beautiful.
  • Japanese garden: A quiet spot where you can experience traditional Japanese beauty in a strolling garden with a pond. You can also enjoy the teahouse and seasonal scenery.
  • EXPO'70 Pavilion: A museum-like facility where you can learn about history, with exhibits of materials and pavilions from the time of the Expo.
  • National Museum of Ethnology (Minpaku): A comprehensive exhibition on the theme of the world's ethnicities and cultures. As it is a separate facility, an admission fee is required, but visiting both will deepen your understanding.
  • Flower Hill, Rose Garden, Seasonal Flower Beds: A wide variety of flowers are planted here, making it a popular spot for photography.
  • EXPOCITY (adjacent): There are large commercial facilities, NIFREL (a museum-style aquarium), a Ferris wheel, and more, and you can enjoy shopping and dining (within walking distance, adjacent area).

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Osaka Monorail "Banpaku Kinen Koen Station": Directly connected to the west entrance of the park, this is the most convenient access.
  • Osaka Monorail "Koen Higashiguchi Station": Access the entrance closest to the east side of the park.
  • Yamada Station on the Hankyu Senri Line: Accessible by foot (approximately 15-20 minutes) or by bus. Highly convenient for access from the Hankyu line.
  • Visiting by car: There is a paid parking lot at the park, but it tends to fill up during peak seasons and on weekends, so we recommend using public transportation.
  • From the airport: Accessible from Itami Airport or Kansai Airport by limousine, train, and monorail. Transfer information varies depending on the departure point, so please check in advance.

*Please check the official website or transportation information for the latest access methods, directions from the station, and parking information.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Short time (mainly strolling): 1-2 hours (Tower of the Sun exterior + a short walk around the surrounding area)
  • Standard (visiting the main attractions): 3-4 hours (visiting the Natural and Cultural Gardens, Japanese Garden, and part of the EXPO'70 Pavilion)
  • Leisurely sightseeing (including museums and facilities): Half a day to a full day (including a tour of the National Museum of Ethnology and the Tower of the Sun, as well as dining and shopping at EXPOCITY)

  • Touring the inside of the Tower of the Sun: Opening times may be limited, and advance reservations and numbered tickets may be required. Please check the official information and make reservations before going.
  • Admission fees and facility fees: Separate park entrance fees and admission fees for each facility (museum, pavilion, etc.) may be required. Please refer to the official website for the latest fees.
  • Food and drink/garbage: Please eat and drink in the designated areas and dispose of garbage according to the designated sorting. Please note that barbecues and other activities may be prohibited.
  • Pets: Please check the rules for bringing pets (areas allowed, leashes, etc.) in advance.
  • Weather precautions: Many areas of the park are exposed to sunlight and rain, so be sure to bring a hat, sunscreen, plenty of water, and rain gear.
  • Accessibility: The main pathways are barrier-free, but some areas of the facilities and gardens may have steps or narrow passages. Please check in advance if you will be using a wheelchair or stroller.
