Mikimoto Pearl Island, located in Toba City, Mie Prefecture, is a tourist spot associated with the world-famous pearl brand "Mikimoto." Originating from founder Kokichi Mikimoto's successful practical application of cultured pearls, the island was developed as a facility showcasing pearl farming techniques, production processes, and decorative arts. One of the island's great attractions is the opportunity to directly experience the culture surrounding pearls and the seas of Ise-Shima, with information on the history of pearls and pearl farming techniques, displays and sales of luxurious pearl accessories, and demonstrations by traditional female divers.

- Pearl Museum Exhibition Corner: You can see the history of Kokichi Mikimoto and pearl farming techniques, as well as a collection of famous domestic and international jewelry. Large pearls and internationally acclaimed pieces are on display.
- Amanohashidate demonstration: A demonstration by female divers wearing white kamishimo (traditional Japanese formal attire) and white hoods. This is a rare opportunity to see up close the techniques of free diving and shellfish gathering (please check the demonstration time).
- Tour of the pearl manufacturing process: There are often explanations and demonstrations about the pearl nucleation, cultivation, sorting, polishing and other processes, so you can learn how pearls are made into jewelry.
- Shops and Galleries: Selling pearls and jewelry of various qualities. From affordable accessories to high-end masterpieces. Convenient for finding souvenirs.
- Outdoor walking area: There are many photo spots with views of the harbor and seaside, as well as unique island scenery. We also recommend taking photos with Toba Bay in the background.
Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- train:The nearest station is JR and Kintetsu Toba Station, which is within walking distance (approximately a 10-minute walk). You can also take a taxi from the station.
- car:Access the island from the Ise and Shima areas via national and prefectural roads. Use the parking lot in the center of Toba City and walk to the island. Please note that the surrounding parking lots may be full during peak hours.
- Expressway bus/tourist bus:It is often included in tourist routes and is within walking distance from Toba Bus Center.
- ferry:Mikimoto Pearl Island itself is usually accessed by a bridge or pier, but it can also be combined with a sightseeing trip to the surrounding bay or a boat trip to a nearby island.

- Dolphin Island (Kirigaki Island, etc.): The surrounding small islands offer tourist facilities and activities.
- Futaminoura (Married Couple Rocks): Within car access. Known for its seaside scenery and the famous Married Couple Rocks.
- Shima Spain Village (Parque Espana): A theme park within driving distance (can be combined if time permits).
Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- congestion:It tends to get crowded during Golden Week, summer vacation, consecutive holidays, and weekends. Depending on the time schedule of the Ama demonstrations and exhibits, you may have to wait to get in.
- Check the performance time:Ama demonstrations and special exhibits are held at set times, so please check the official website or information guide in advance to make sure you don't waste time.
- Photography etiquette:Photography may be restricted in some exhibits and exhibition rooms. Please avoid flash photography and touching exhibits, and follow the instructions of the staff.
- Clothes/weather:There are windy days at the beach. Temperatures fluctuate greatly, especially in spring and winter, so it's a good idea to bring a jacket to stay comfortable.
- Barrier-free access and mobility:There are some outdoor areas with slopes and steps, so there may be some restrictions on movement with wheelchairs or strollers. If you need wheelchairs or strollers, please contact the facility in advance.
