Onioshidashi Park (Tsumagoi Village, Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture)
Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Onioshidashi Park is a tourist destination developed on the vast lava fields that were formed when the lava flowed out from the great eruption of Mount Asama in 1783 (Tenmei 3) cooled. The unique landscape of the rugged black lava blocks is so impressive it feels like you're walking through another world, and its contrast with the rugged appearance of Mount Asama captivates visitors. The park is equipped with walking trails, observation spots, information boards, a visitor center (with exhibits and a shop), and more, and its appeal lies in the fact that you can get a close-up feel of the history of volcanic activity and the power of nature.
