Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Iimoriyama is a small hill about 200 meters above sea level in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, located east of the center of Aizuwakamatsu. It is particularly known as the site of the tragic suicide of the Byakkotai (White Tiger Corps) during the Boshin War (1868) at the end of the Edo period, and is home to a memorial monument where 19 young soldiers rest, a bronze statue, and an observation deck. It is a spot that combines historical significance with a panoramic view of Tsuruga Castle (Aizuwakamatsu Castle) and the city, making it a place to learn about Aizu's history and a tourist spot where you can enjoy the changing scenery throughout the four seasons.
