Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Aomori Prefectural Tourist and Products Center ASPAM is a landmark tourist facility located in the Aomori Port Bay Area in Aomori City. Its distinctive triangular exterior is reminiscent of the sails and pyramids towering over the harbor, and is easily recognizable even from afar. Inside, the complex combines tourist information, a sales corner for prefectural products, restaurants, an event space, an observation deck, and more, making it a popular base for "seeing, tasting, and buying" Aomori.

In addition to selling local specialties such as apples, seafood (scallops, squid, etc.), Nebuta-related goods, and crafts, the museum also offers tourist information from all over the prefecture, making it convenient for first-time visitors to Aomori. There are also displays and sales related to seasonal foods and festivals, as well as a tasting and sampling corner, allowing you to experience the charms of Aomori in a short space of time.

Highlights

  • Observation floor: Panoramic views of the port, Aomori city, Tsugaru Fuji (Mount Iwaki) and the Hakkoda mountain range (visibility may vary depending on the weather).

  • Note: Please check the official website or tourist guide for the exact address, parking information, and opening hours of the facility.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: The number of visitors increases during the summer Nebuta Festival (early August), Golden Week, New Year's, etc. Popular restaurants may have to wait.
  • Opening hours and closing days: Opening hours for shops and observation decks may vary within the facility. Please check the official website or call before visiting for the latest information.
  • Weather: The visibility of the views is dependent on the weather. In winter, travel may take longer due to snow accumulation and frozen roads, so please be sure to dress warmly and have ample transportation options.
  • Taking souvenirs home: Fresh produce (such as seafood) needs to be kept refrigerated. Delivery services and refrigerated delivery services are often available, so it's convenient to check before purchasing.
  • Manners: When it is crowded, please follow the route and instructions inside the store, and be considerate of other visitors and local residents. Be aware of whether photography is permitted and avoid touching the exhibits.
  • Cashless: Many shops accept card and electronic payments, but some smaller stores only accept cash, so it's a good idea to have some cash on hand.

*The latest facility information (opening hours, closing days, event status, parking information, etc.) may be subject to change. We recommend checking the official website of the Aomori Prefectural Tourism and Products Center ASPAM or the Aomori City Tourist Information Center before visiting.
