Nagai Park (Higashisumiyoshi Ward, Osaka City) — Overview (History, Features, and Attractions)

Nagai Park is an urban park located near the border between Higashisumiyoshi Ward and Sumiyoshi Ward in Osaka City. It is a large, comprehensive park equipped with sports facilities, a botanical garden, a lawn plaza, walking paths, and more. Formerly a green space making use of part of the Sakai Hills, it has long been a popular place for citizens to relax and a base for sports and events. As it is home to a large stadium (Yanmar Stadium Nagai) and Nagai Botanical Gardens, the park is particularly popular with visitors who come to watch games and enjoy the seasonal flora.

Highlights

  • Yanmar Stadium Nagai (Nagai Athletics Stadium): A major facility where large-scale events such as soccer, track and field events, and concerts are held. The atmosphere is very lively on match days.
  • Nagai Botanical Gardens: A well-maintained botanical garden where you can enjoy seasonal flowers and trees. Highlights include cherry blossoms in spring, roses and hydrangeas in early summer, and autumn leaves in autumn (some facilities require a fee and have opening hours).
  • Large grassy area and picnic area: A popular picnic spot and play area for children. Many families and people come here for walks.
  • Jogging and walking courseThe park has circular trails and shady paths, making it suitable for runners and walkers.
  • Seasonal nature observation:This is a place where you can experience the changing nature of nature by observing small birds and insects, viewing spring cherry blossoms, and watching the falling leaves in autumn.
  • Children's play equipment and pool (seasonal): In the summer, you can enjoy swimming pools, children's playgrounds, and green spaces (usage periods and fees vary depending on the facility).

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Osaka Metro Midosuji Line "Nagai Station":About 5-10 minutes on foot. Conveniently located on the north side of the park.
  • JR Hanwa Line "Nagai Station": Approximately 7-12 minutes on foot. Conveniently accessible from the south.
  • bus: City bus routes are available from all directions. The nearest bus stop varies depending on the route, so please check according to your destination.
  • Cars and parking: There are paid parking lots in the area, but they tend to be crowded or full on big event days and during cherry blossom viewing season, so we recommend using public transportation.
  • From the airport: Approximately 1 hour by train and subway from Kansai International Airport or Itami Airport (varies depending on route). From Shin-Osaka, where the Shinkansen stops, you can get there by subway on the Midosuji Line.
