Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Toyosu Market (Koto Ward, Tokyo) is the main wholesale market of the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market, which opened in October 2018, taking over the functions of Tsukiji Market (Central Wholesale Market/Inner Market). Unlike the traditional street stall atmosphere, it is a modern facility equipped with the latest hygiene standards and logistics equipment, and consolidates the wholesale functions of fresh fish, vegetables, and flowers.
Its distinctive features include the seafood wholesale market and auction hall (famous for tuna auctions) which can be viewed through glass, the City Market, which is lined with restaurants and retail stores for the general public, as well as a rooftop observation space and park.It is also a popular tourist spot, with people lining up from early in the morning for Edomae sushi and seafood bowls made with fresh seafood.
