Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Hayama Marina (Hayama Town, Miura District, Kanagawa Prefecture) is a yacht harbor with a resort-like atmosphere facing Sagami Bay. It's a popular base for local marine leisure activities, as well as a spot where you can enjoy the coastal scenery and views of Mt. Fuji. It offers mooring facilities for yacht and cruiser boats, marina facilities, and restaurants and cafes overlooking the sea, and offers a variety of activities, including sailing, cruising, fishing, and coastal walks. On clear days, you can see the sunset and Mt. Fuji together, making it a popular spot for photography enthusiasts and couples.

Highlights

  • Marina view: A view of the harbor where yachts and cruisers are lined up in an orderly fashion. You can relax while watching the sea and the ships.
  • Maritime activities: yacht cruises, sailing excursions, fishing, boat charters, etc. (advance booking recommended).
  • Restaurant/cafe: Enjoy fresh seafood and light meals on the terrace overlooking the sea.
  • Sunset & Mt. Fuji View: If the weather is good, this is a famous spot where you can see Mt. Fuji and the sunset at the same time in the evening.
  • Strolling around the area: Enjoy the sea breeze by walking along the nearby Morito Beach and the seaside promenade.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest stations: JR Zushi Station and Keikyu Shin-Zushi Station. Accessible by bus or taxi from both stations.

  • Taxi: Approximately 10-15 minutes from Zushi Station (depending on traffic conditions).
  • By car: Access via National Route 134. Traffic congestion around Hayama can be severe during the summer and on weekends, so it's recommended to plan your trip with ample time. Paid parking is available at the marina (limited space).
  • Bicycles: The Zushi-Hayama area is also suitable for cycling, making it a pleasant place to visit.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Short visit: 30 minutes to 1 hour (port walk + photography)
  • Food-focused: 1.5 to 2.5 hours (lunch at a restaurant or cafe)
  • Marine activities included: Half-day to full-day (sailing experience, cruise, fishing, etc.)

Nearby spots

  • Morito Beach and Morito Shrine: Close to the marina, you can enjoy playing on the rocks, strolling in the sea breeze, and visiting the shrine.
  • Isshiki Beach (Hayama Isshiki): An area dotted with beaches and seaside cafes.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: Summer (beach season), weekends, and holidays can be particularly busy, and the parking lot may fill up. We recommend using public transportation and arriving early.
  • Manners: The marina has moored boats and privately owned areas, so please use the designated footpaths and viewing areas. Trespassing on private property, making noise, and leaving trash are strictly prohibited.
  • Sea safety: Please take safety precautions such as wearing a life jacket when on the reefs or on the boat. Activities may be canceled depending on the weather and sea conditions.
  • Clothing and Preparation: The sea breeze can be strong and chilly, so it's useful to have something to wear over your clothes. On sunny days, be sure to bring a hat and sunscreen.
  • Reservations: Boat charters and some restaurants may require advance reservations. Please check by phone or online before visiting.
