Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Arakawa Yuen is a small, community-based amusement park located in Tokyo's Arakawa Ward. Featuring mainly small play equipment and rides for children, it's popular with families and those with small children. The park's compact size makes it easy to drop in, and it's conveniently located right in front of a Toden Arakawa Line stop, offering a friendly, downtown atmosphere. The park has a park area and an area for play equipment and rides, making it a popular spot for picnics and everyday walks.

Highlights

  • Rides for children: There are plenty of attractions for young children to enjoy, including a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round, and mini train.
  • A small amusement park atmosphere: Unlike large-scale theme parks, this is a simple and warm space rooted in the local community.
  • Collaboration with the Toden Arakawa Line: The Toden stop is located nearby, so you can enjoy a stroll while watching the retro streetcars.
  • Access to surrounding green spaces and riverbanks: You can relax in nature by visiting the Arakawa riverbank and nearby parks.
  • Safety considerations for small children: Most of the rides are moderate in speed and height, so even small children can ride safely.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: Toden Arakawa Line "Arakawa-Yuenchi-mae" stop (short walk)
  • Approximate distance from major stations: One stop by Toden tram from Machiya Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line or Keisei Electric Railway, or about a 10-minute walk (depending on the route). From JR and other lines, you can also access the area by Toden tram or bus.
  • Bus: You may be able to use local buses within Arakawa Ward. Please check the departure and arrival routes and bus stops in advance.
  • By car: As this is a city center location, parking is often limited, so we recommend using public transportation. If you are coming by car, please use the nearby paid parking lots.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Short: Around 1 hour (enjoy a few rides and go around the park)
  • Standard: 2-3 hours (including rides, local walks, snacks and picnic)
  • Relaxed: Half a day (combined with a visit to a nearby park or riverside)

Nearby spots

  • Arakawa Riverbed: A large natural area where you can enjoy walking, cycling, and seasonal scenery.
  • Around Machiya Station: A spot with a shopping street and restaurants where you can experience the atmosphere of a downtown area.
  • Stroll along the Toden line: This is a fun area to explore the retro Toden trams and the small cafes and shops along the line.
  • Nippori/Nishi-Nippori area: If you go a little further, you can access the walking areas of Yanaka and Nippori.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: It can get crowded with families on weekends, holidays, spring break, summer vacation, etc. If you have small children, the early hours are generally less crowded.
  • Please note when riding the rides: There are age and height restrictions and rules for use, so please follow the instructions of the staff. Small children may need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Facilities: Accessible toilets and baby rooms may not be available, so it's best to check in advance if you need them.
  • Weather and Seasonal Precautions: In summer, take measures against the sun and stay hydrated, and in winter, take measures against the cold. As the trail is close to the riverbed, there may be strong winds on some days.
  • Manners: The site also serves as a local park, so please be sure to take your trash with you or dispose of it in the designated area. Please use the playground equipment and facilities carefully and be considerate of other users (especially children).

(Note) The latest opening hours, closing days, ride operation information, admission and usage fees, etc. may be subject to change. We recommend checking the official information and guidance of Arakawa City and Arakawa Yuen before heading out.
