Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Hana no Miyako Park is a park located in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture, where visitors can enjoy flowers and nature. With a great view of Mt. Fuji and extensive flower fields, lawn plazas, and walking trails, the park's greatest attraction is being able to enjoy the scenery of flowers blooming throughout the seasons and Mt. Fuji at the same time. It was developed as part of local agricultural and tourism promotion efforts, and during the tourist season many visitors come to take photos, picnic, and stroll. The contrast between Mt. Fuji and the flowers from the vantage point is also popular with photography enthusiasts.

Highlights

  • Seasonal Flower Field: A zone where the main flower changes with the seasons, such as tulips in spring, lavender in early summer, sunflowers in summer, and cosmos and dahlias in autumn.
  • Observation spot overlooking Mt. Fuji: If the weather is good, you can see the majestic Mt. Fuji over the flower fields, and the scenery changes with the morning and evening light, making it a great spot for taking photos.
  • Lawn Square and Walking Path: A spacious lawn and walking path perfect for picnics and leisurely strolls. Perfect for families and couples.
  • Seasonal Events and Photo Spots: Events such as flower festivals and photo contests are sometimes held, and special photo spots and photo frames are sometimes set up.
  • Shops and cafes: There are shops selling local specialties and snacks, where you can enjoy local flavors while taking a break (opening hours vary depending on the season).

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest train station: Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyuko Line (convenient as the nearest major station).
  • Bus: Take a local bus such as Fujikyu Bus from Kawaguchiko Station towards the park (the route and number of buses varies depending on the season). Please check the latest timetable in advance for bus stop names and times.
  • Taxi: Approximately 15-30 minutes by taxi from Kawaguchiko Station (depending on traffic congestion and departure and arrival locations).
  • By car: Accessible from the Chuo Expressway/Fuji Five Lakes area interchange (such as Kawaguchiko IC). There is a parking lot at the park, but it may fill up during peak seasons, so it is recommended to arrive early.
  • Bicycle/walking: If you are staying nearby, you can also access the area by bicycle. Please check your physical strength and distance.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Short walk: 30 minutes to 1 hour (just a quick look at the main attractions)
  • Relaxed photography and picnic: 1.5 to 3 hours (including photo shoots and breaks)
  • Event or seasonal photography purposes: Half-day to full-day (to avoid crowds and capture the best light)

Nearby spots

  • Lake Kawaguchi (lakeside walks, sightseeing boats, boat trips)
  • Oishi Park (Flowers and lake scenery with a view of Mt. Fuji)
  • Fuji-Q Highland (Amusement Park)
  • Arakurayama Sengen Park (Chureito Pagoda and cherry blossoms / a great spot to take photos of Mt. Fuji through the five-story pagoda)

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: The parking lot and the park itself can get crowded during peak periods such as Golden Week, summer vacation, and autumn foliage season. If you want to avoid the crowds, we recommend visiting on weekdays or early in the morning.
  • Weather and Mount Fuji visibility: Mount Fuji is easily affected by the weather, and even on sunny days the summit may be hidden by clouds. If you are concerned about the view, be sure to check the weather forecast.
  • Clothing and what to bring: As you are at the foot of the mountain, it can get chilly in the mornings and evenings. Please bring winter clothing, rain gear, heatstroke prevention gear, and insect repellent according to the season.
  • Photography etiquette: If there are any restricted areas or ropes in the flower fields, please be sure to abide by them. Please be considerate not to damage the flowers or disturb other visitors.
  • Pets allowed: Whether pets are allowed in the park varies depending on the location and season. Please check in advance and be sure to keep your pets on a leash and pick up any waste after you leave.
  • Use of drones, etc.: Drone flying is often subject to local rules and safety restrictions. Be sure to check in advance and refrain from flying without permission.
  • Garbage and Environmental Consideration: Please follow park rules such as taking your trash home and sorting it properly, and be considerate of other users and the natural environment.

Note: Bus schedules, parking lot operations, and shop opening hours may vary depending on the season and year. We recommend checking official information or the latest information from the tourist association before visiting.
