Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Fukuoka PayPay Dome (located in Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture) is a large, all-weather dome stadium that opened in 1993 and represents Fukuoka. It is famous as the home stadium of the professional baseball team, the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, and in addition to its function as a baseball stadium, it is also a complex arena facility that hosts many concerts and various events. As it is covered, games and concerts are less likely to be cancelled even in the rain, and although the capacity varies depending on the event, it can accommodate tens of thousands of spectators, which is an attractive feature.

Highlights

  • Watching professional baseball: Hawks games offer the unique atmosphere of a stadium, with cheering songs, famous performances, and night game productions.
  • Food: The stadium offers a wide variety of food, including the famous fried chicken, Hawks original menu items, various beers and snacks.
  • Concerts and Events: Large-scale concerts by domestic and international artists are often held here, and the stage productions are professional.
  • Team Official Shop and Museum: There is a shop selling Hawks merchandise and exhibits (permanent and special exhibitions) that allow you to learn about the team's history.
  • Scenery: The area around the stadium faces Hakata Bay, and on sunny days you can enjoy a stroll along the coastline while enjoying the view.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: About a 5-10 minute walk from Tojinmachi Station on the Subway Kuko Line. It's easy to find if you follow the signs from the station.
  • From Hakata Station: By subway, it takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes (varies depending on the line and time of day), including transfers and waiting times. You can also access the area from Tenjin by subway or bus.
  • Buses and Shuttles: Special buses and shuttles may operate during events. Please check official announcements and event information in advance.
  • By car: There is a parking lot, but it tends to be crowded and full on event days, so we recommend using public transportation. It is convenient to use paid parking lots in the surrounding area or take a taxi.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Watching a professional baseball game: Approximately 3 hours from start to finish (entrance and travel times are separate).
  • Concerts: Depending on the performance, the duration is usually 2-4 hours (please allow plenty of time, including the busy times before and after the show).
  • Stadium tour: If held, it will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes (advance reservations and confirmation of dates are required).
  • Walking around the area: It's a good idea to allow 1 to 3 hours, including walking along the surrounding seaside and eating.

Nearby spots

  • Fukuoka Tower/Momochihama Area: A popular seaside spot where you can enjoy the view from Fukuoka Tower and stroll along the beach.
  • Ohori Park: A park with a large pond and expansive greenery where you can relax (it's a short drive away, making it convenient for combining sightseeing).
  • Tenjin/Nakasu area: Easy subway access to shopping, gourmet food, and the nightlife district.
  • Canal City Hakata: Home to shopping malls and restaurants, it's popular with tourists (easy access).
  • Marinoa City Fukuoka: Enjoy shopping at the outlet mall (easy access by car or bus).

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: On match and concert days, queues for entry and traffic congestion in the surrounding area will be intense. Please allow yourself plenty of time and consider the crowds on the way back.
  • Tickets and what to bring: Purchase tickets from official outlets or authorized ticket agencies. Some venues may have baggage inspections or restrictions on what can be brought in, so please check the official information in advance.
  • Food, Drinks, and Garbage: Please separate your garbage and dispose of it in the designated areas. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas within the venue (most domes have a no-smoking policy or only allow smoking in designated areas).
  • Clothing and cold weather: Even though it is an indoor event, it may get cold depending on the season and the event. It is a good idea to bring a jacket, especially at night and in winter.
  • Parking and Transportation: Parking lots fill up quickly, so we recommend using public transportation. Taxi stands tend to be crowded, so it's best to check the pickup location in advance.
  • Check event information: Match dates, opening times, and tour dates are subject to change. Please check the official website and social media for the latest information.

(Additional Information) Please be sure to check the Fukuoka PayPay Dome official website or the organizer's information for the latest access information, event schedule, venue rules, tour status, etc.
