Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Yebisu Garden Place is a large-scale complex located in the Ebisu district of Tokyo. It was created by redeveloping the site of a former beer factory (Ebisu Beer Factory), and is a city block that combines commercial facilities, offices, cultural facilities, hotels, and restaurants. It is notable for its deep connection to Yebisu (Ebisu) Beer, which is the origin of the place name and brand name.

The sophisticated streetscape blends seamlessly with the greenery, and seasonal events are held in the outdoor plaza and glass atrium, making it a popular spot for both tourists and locals. The winter illuminations and the large chandelier in the central plaza are particularly well-known.

Highlights

  • Ebisu Garden Place's central plaza, Glass Square: A Baccarat chandelier is sometimes installed here, making it a popular photo spot. You can also enjoy seasonal decorations and events.
  • Facilities related to Sapporo Beer: In the surrounding area, there are exhibits that tell the history of Yebisu Beer, as well as shops and beer halls where you can sample beer and purchase souvenirs (please check the names of the facilities and their opening times).
  • Tokyo Photographic Art Museum: A museum specializing in photography and video, with a wide range of special exhibitions. A must-see spot for photography lovers.
  • Restaurants and cafesThe restaurants on the ground floor and in the tower offer a lineup of Japanese, Western and international cuisine. Some restaurants also offer night views.
  • Shops & Food Area: It is a convenient place for quick shopping, with stores selling fashion, miscellaneous goods, groceries, and more.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: JR Ebisu Station (Yamanote Line, Saikyo Line, Shonan-Shinjuku Line) and Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line Ebisu Station
  • Walking distance: Approximately 3-7 minutes on foot from either the west or east exit of Ebisu Station (accessible from the station via covered walkways or sidewalks).
  • Buses and taxis: Local buses and taxis are also available. If you are coming by car, there is a parking lot, but it tends to fill up during peak hours, so public transportation is more convenient.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Just a quick stroll and photos: 30 minutes to 1 hour
  • Typical stay, including dining and shopping: 1.5 to 3 hours
  • Museum visits and leisurely meals: Half a day (3-5 hours)

Nearby spots

  • Ebisu Yokocho: A drinking district near the station lined with food stalls with a retro Showa-era atmosphere.
  • Daikanyama area: Within walking distance of one station. Recommended for strolling around with many stylish cafes and boutiques.
  • Nakameguro and Meguro River (famous for its cherry blossoms in spring): Great for strolling and cafe hopping.
  • Shibuya Area: If you want to enjoy shopping or nightlife, it's just one train stop away.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: The park is extremely crowded on weekends, during the New Year holidays, during illumination displays, and during Christmas. If you plan to take photos or eat at a restaurant, we recommend leaving plenty of time and making reservations in advance at establishments that accept reservations.
  • Opening hours: Shops, museums, and restaurants have different opening hours and closing days. Museums in particular have closing days (mostly on Mondays) and closing times for changing exhibits, so be sure to check the official website in advance.
  • Photography etiquette: You are free to take photos in the plaza and outdoors, but photography may be prohibited inside exhibits and some stores. Please follow the instructions of museums, restaurants, etc.
  • Smoking and drinking: Smoking is prohibited on the premises, and smoking is only permitted in designated smoking areas. Please be especially considerate when smoking outdoors.
  • Note for those using cars: There is a parking lot, but it is limited in number and often fills up during events. We recommend using public transportation.
  • Weather precautions: Outdoor plazas and walkways can be navigated even in the rain, but please be careful as some areas may become slippery when it rains.

Note: For the latest event information, opening hours, admission fees, temporary closures and construction information, please check the official websites of Ebisu Garden Place and each facility.
