Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Tokushima Castle is a castle ruin located in the center of Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture. During the Edo period, it was the castle of the Hachisuka clan, who served as the headquarters of the Tokushima Domain. It was developed from the end of the Sengoku period through the Edo period, and the remains of the stone walls, moats, and enclosures remain in good condition. The castle tower no longer exists, but the remains of the Honmaru and Ninomaru citadels, as well as parts of the castle gate and turrets, have been restored and preserved, and the castle ruins are beloved by local residents as Tokushima Central Park.

There are facilities on the premises or nearby that exhibit historical materials (Tokushima Castle-related museums and archives), and one of the attractions of the castle is that you can learn about life during the feudal era and the structure of the castle. The scenery is beautiful during the cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons, making it a popular spot for strolling and photography.
