■ Overview (history, characteristics, appeal)
Koshimizu Primeval Flower Garden is a coastal primeval flower garden that stretches across Koshimizu Town on Hokkaido's Sea of Okhotsk coast. Located between the Sea of Okhotsk and Lake Notoro, the sand dunes and wetlands are home to a profusion of natural flowers blooming seasonally, with observation paths and observation points along the roughly 2km coastline. A beloved local natural landscape since ancient times, the natural environment has been preserved here, and the wildflowers that bloom against the backdrop of the sea, lake, and fields are a major attraction. From spring to autumn, a variety of seasonal flowers can be seen, including daylilies, roses, various daffodils, and sea peas, and approximately 300 species of plants have been identified. It's the perfect spot for photography, bird watching, and a leisurely stroll.

■Highlights
- Seasonal flowers: Daffodils in early spring, Rugosa roses and daylilies in early summer (June to July), and various coastal plants from summer to autumn. The scenery changes with each season.
- Contrast between the sea and the lake: This is an unusual location with the Sea of Okhotsk on the right and Lake Notoro on the left. The view of both the horizon and the inland lake makes for a great photo.
– Promenades and Observation Decks: The park has boardwalks, walking paths, and observation decks from which you can enjoy panoramic views of the flower fields and coastline. There are also spots suitable for bird watching.
- Drift ice season (winter): Although it is different from the flower season, in winter there are areas close to the coast where you can view the drift ice, making it a scenic spot for a drive (however, the flowers do not bloom).
- Photography and nature observation: There are many places where you can take close-up shots, and many people enjoy macro photography and landscape photography. It is also a good place to observe wildflowers, insects, and migratory birds.

■Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- Train: The nearest station is Hamakoshimizu Station on the JR Senmo Main Line. It is within walking distance (10-20 minutes on foot, depending on luggage and physical strength).
- Bus: During the tourist season, local buses and tourist buses may operate from the Abashiri and Shari areas. Schedules and operations change depending on the season, so we recommend checking in advance.
- By car: Approximately 20-30 minutes from central Abashiri via national and prefectural roads, and approximately 40 minutes by car from Memanbetsu Airport (depending on road and traffic conditions). There are parking lots available, but they may fill up during peak hours.
- Bicycles and walking: Some people rent bicycles to visit the area while also sightseeing. Please be aware that there may be strong winds on some days, so please be mindful of your clothing and physical condition.

■ Estimated stay (estimated time required)
- Rough walk: 30 minutes to 1 hour (short walk including round trip to the observation deck)
- Careful observation and photography: 1.5 to 3 hours (including leisurely walking, photography, and bench breaks)
- Day trips combined with surrounding areas: Half a day to a full day (when combining with Lake Notoro, Abashiri Prison Museum, Kitahama Station, etc.)

■ Nearby spots
- Lake Notoroko: Enjoy the scenery along the lake, the sunset, and the view of Lake Saroma on the shore.
- Abashiri: Abashiri Prison Museum, Abashiri Port area, sightseeing boats, etc.
– Kitahama Station, View of the Sound of the Waves: A local station with a close-up view of the Sea of Okhotsk, it is a popular photo spot.
– Lake Saroma and Wakka Primeval Flower Garden (accessible by car): Enjoy the vast primeval flower garden and cycling.
- Shari/Shiretoko area: If you have time, you can take a drive to the Shiretoko Peninsula, a World Heritage Site.

■Points to note (crowds, etiquette, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Do not pick flowers: The Native Flower Garden is a nature reserve. Picking or taking home flowers or plants is prohibited. Photography is allowed, but please be careful not to damage the plants.
- Use the designated walking paths: Veering off the walking paths and boardwalks can damage the plants and the ground. Always walk on maintained paths.
- Busy periods: The peak viewing season is from June to July, and the summer vacation period sees an increase in tourists. Parking lots and promenades can get crowded, so please allow yourself plenty of time.
- Weather and cold weather: The Okhotsk Sea coast is windy and cold regardless of the season. It is especially cold in early spring and in the evenings, so please bring something to wear over your clothes. Even in summer, the wind can be strong and chilly.
- Insect protection: There is a wetland nearby, so in the summer there may be mosquitoes and wasps. Bring insect repellent, long sleeves, and a hat.
- Roads and drift ice sightseeing in winter: In winter, roads may freeze and snow may accumulate, so driving is necessary. For drift ice sightseeing, please check the information on boats and observation spots separately.
- Garbage and smoking: Please take your trash with you and smoke only in designated areas. We appreciate your cooperation in preserving nature.
- Pets: If you take your pet for a walk, please be sure to keep it on a leash and clean up its droppings. There are also places where entry is restricted to protect the flowers.

Additional travel tips:
- The soft light in the morning and evening makes for beautiful photos.
– Binoculars are useful for observing wild birds and distant landscapes.
– Nearby tourist attractions and bus schedules change depending on the season. Please check the latest information before visiting.

If necessary, we can also create a calendar of photogenic spots, representative seasonal flowers, and information on nearby accommodations and restaurants. Please let us know what information you would like to receive.
