Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Oarai Isosaki Shrine is a seaside shrine located in Oarai Town, Higashiibaraki District, Ibaraki Prefecture, and has long been worshipped as the god of maritime safety and the protection of the fishing industry. As the name of the shrine suggests, it is located facing the rocky shore, and the Kamiiso no Torii gate standing on the sea is particularly well known as a symbolic sight of Oarai. The view of the morning sun rising between the torii gates is a popular photo spot, and many worshippers visit the shrine to see the first sunrise of the year.
