Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Ouchi-juku, located in Shimogo Town, Minamiaizu District, Fukushima Prefecture, is a post town that retains strong traces of the Edo period. It flourished as a post station on the Aizu Nishi Kaido (a road that connected Aizu-Wakamatsu with Nikko and Edo), and the townscape of rows of thatched-roof houses has been preserved. It is currently designated as an "Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings," and is popular with both domestic and international tourists as it allows visitors to experience the scenery of the past as it was.
Its distinctive feature is the row of thatched roof houses along a single narrow street, which are used as souvenir shops, restaurants, guesthouses, etc. It is particularly famous for its "negi soba" (soba noodles eaten with green onions) and traditional local cuisine, and you can enjoy different scenery with each season, such as snowy scenery, fresh green leaves, and autumn leaves.

- Manners: Thatched roofs are cultural assets and are used by local residents. Please refrain from climbing onto the roofs, entering areas where photography is prohibited without permission, and making noise. Take your trash home or dispose of it in designated areas.
- Eating and drinking etiquette: When enjoying negi soba noodles, please follow the store's instructions and be considerate of those around you. If you are accompanied by small children, please be careful about how you eat.
- Consideration for flora and fauna: Please observe basic etiquette, such as not damaging vegetation to maintain the landscape and not trespassing on private property.
