Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Nagoya TV Tower (located in Naka Ward, Nagoya City) is a symbolic landmark of Sakae, Nagoya. Built shortly after the war and completed in the 1950s, it is one of Japan's oldest TV towers, and the steel-framed tower that stands tall in the center of the city serves as an accent to the urban landscape. At about 180 meters high, the observation deck offers a panoramic view of Nagoya city and the surrounding mountains, and is popular not only for its daytime views but also for its beautiful night views.
In recent years, the tower itself and Hisaya-odori Park below it have been linked together to hold light-up events and seasonal illuminations, making the tower popular not only as a tourist attraction but also as a place of relaxation and an event venue for local residents.
Highlights
- View from the observation deck: The biggest attraction is the 360-degree view of Nagoya city. On a clear day, you can see the distant mountains and the city's main buildings. The night view is romantic and popular with couples.
- Light-up illuminations: Colored lighting and projections are used according to the season and events, and the tower is a recommended photo spot after sunset.
- Parks and squares under the tower: Hisaya Odori Park and the surrounding pedestrian spaces, benches, and green spaces are well-maintained, making them ideal for strolling and resting. There are also many cafes and shops in the surrounding area.
- Events on weekends and holidays: There are often markets, music events, and festivals held here, so you can enjoy the bustle of the town.
Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
- Nearest stations: Sakae Station (Meijo Line/Higashiyama Line) and Hisaya-odori Station. Both are just a few minutes' walk away. Located in the central Sakae area, it is easily accessible.
