Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
The Hakkoda Maru is a preserved former Seikan Ferry ship moored at Aomori Port in Aomori City. This ferry once served on an important sea route connecting Hakodate, Hokkaido, with Aomori, and after the route was discontinued following the opening of the Seikan Tunnel, it has been preserved and exhibited in Aomori City. Inside the ship, the original passenger rooms, wheelhouse, engine room, and other facilities remain intact, allowing you to directly experience the atmosphere of shipping and travel during the Showa period, making it a great attraction. The view of the ship from the port and sea, as well as from land, makes for a photogenic sight, making it popular with a wide range of people, including families, train and ship enthusiasts, and fans of Showa retro styles.
