Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Kururi Castle is a tourist spot centered around the ruins of a mountain castle and its restored castle tower, which was built on the site of the mountain castle in Kururi, Kimitsu City, Chiba Prefecture. It is said to have served as the base of the Kururi Domain from the Kamakura and Muromachi periods through the Sengoku period and into the Edo period, and has a long history as a castle. The castle tower that can be seen today is a restoration, and its wooden exterior gives off the atmosphere of the past.

Its distinctive feature is the contrast between the magnificent views that can be enjoyed from its position on a hill in the countryside and the quaint streets of the castle town. The remains of the stone walls and kuruwa (enclosures), as well as the grounds that have been developed as a castle park, are blessed with seasonal scenery and are especially popular during the cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons. History buffs will also find the mini museum inside the castle tower, where historical documents are on display, fascinating.
