Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
The Kuji Amber Museum is a museum specializing in amber, located in Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture. The Kuji area has long been known as one of Japan's leading amber producing regions, and the museum exhibits locally harvested amber, as well as insect and plant fossils (inclusions) trapped within the amber. The museum offers a comprehensive look at the process by which amber is formed, its geological background, processing techniques, and historical uses. In addition, the museum offers a chance to learn about amber's processing techniques, as well as hands-on programs, allowing visitors to "see, learn, and make" the museum's appealing combination of these elements.
