Nakatsu Castle (Nakatsu City) was developed as a fortress from the Sengoku to Edo periods, and originally served as the political base of the Nakatsu Domain. The current castle tower is a restored building, and the castle interior also serves as a museum displaying local materials and historical exhibits. Taking advantage of its location near the sea and river, the castle features moats and stone walls, and the charm of the castle town, along with the seasonal scenery (famous cherry blossom viewing spots, autumn foliage views, etc.) and the views from the castle are appealing. Nakatsu City is also associated with Fukuzawa Yukichi, and together with the castle area, you can experience the history and culture of the region.
