Mitsubishi Minatomirai Industrial Museum (Nishi-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture)

Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

The Mitsubishi Minatomirai Industrial Museum is an experiential industrial technology museum that provides an easy-to-understand introduction to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (and the technologies of the Mitsubishi Group). It features exhibits on the company's manufacturing history and the latest technologies, and is characterized by its structure that emphasizes "seeing, touching, and experiencing." Through life-size models, actual machines, simulators, and hands-on experience corners, visitors can intuitively learn about technologies in a wide range of fields, including ships, aircraft, and energy and environmental technology. With a strong educational element that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, it is a popular destination for families and schools.

Highlights

  • Life-size and actual machine exhibits: Experience the scale of manufacturing through large-scale actual machine exhibits such as ship engines, turbines, and aircraft parts.
  • Hands-on simulator: A simulator corner where you can try out steering and maneuvering (age restrictions and numbered tickets may apply).
  • Exhibition explanations and video displays: Panels and videos that clearly explain the principles and history of technology, allowing you to visually understand how the technology works.
  • Hands-on workshops for children: We sometimes hold programs that allow children to learn by doing things through crafts and science experiments (some require advance registration).
  • Special exhibitions and themed exhibits change with the seasons, allowing visitors to experience the latest technology and historical materials.
