Meriken Park is a waterfront park located on the seafront in Chuo Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. The name "Meriken" comes from the English word "American," and is deeply connected to the history of Kobe Port, which developed as an international port where foreign ships anchored from the Meiji period onwards. Today, the park is lined with distinctive buildings such as the red Kobe Port Tower and the Kobe Maritime Museum with its innovative roof, and is attractive for its beautiful scenery and night view interwoven with the port and mountains. The park was also devastated by the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, and has been equipped with monuments and memorial zones to commemorate the disaster, serving as a place for tourism, relaxation, and remembrance.

- Kobe Port Tower: Look out for the red steel frame on the exterior. From the observation deck, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the harbor, the Kobe cityscape, and even the Rokko Mountains (opening hours and admission fees may vary, so please check in advance).
– Kobe Maritime Museum: There are exhibits that teach you about the history of Kobe Port, ships, and port technology, and the building itself is a great photo spot.

- Night view and illumination: The beautiful illumination from dusk to night makes it a popular spot for dates and photography. During events, illuminations and fireworks are sometimes held.

- Approximately 15-20 minutes walk east from JR/Hanshin Motomachi Station (this may vary depending on the route).
- It is about a 10-15 minute walk from JR Kobe Station.
- It is a 20-30 minute walk from JR, Hankyu, and Hanshin Sannomiya (Kobe-Sannomiya) Station, or you can conveniently take a bus or taxi.

- Nankinmachi (Chinatown): A popular gourmet spot. You can stop by while taking a walk.
– Kitano Ijinkan-gai: A group of Western-style buildings with an exotic atmosphere. It can be reached by taxi in a few minutes or by walking up the hill.
- The port area on the east side of Meriken Park: There is a cruise ship terminal and a cafe, and you can also enjoy the view from the sea.
– Parks and promenades around Kobe Port Tower: Also famous as a night view spot.

- Crowds: It gets very crowded on weekends, holidays, during the tourist season at night, and during fireworks and illumination displays. Be aware of waiting times around photo spots and observation decks.
- Manners: Please be considerate at memorial sites such as earthquake memorials, by remaining quiet and taking your trash with you. If you are bringing pets, please check the rules and see if they are allowed.
Weather and clothing: The seaside is windy and feels cold. We recommend wind protection in spring and autumn, and cold weather protection in winter. Be careful as some areas can be slippery when it rains.
– Barrier-free access: The main walking trails are relatively flat, but there are some steps and slopes. Please check in advance about elevators and facilities at observation decks and facilities.
