Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Mitarai Valley is a beautiful valley with a clear stream and deep V-shaped valley in Tenkawa Village, Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture. Characterized by a landscape of crystal clear water against a limestone backdrop, large and small waterfalls, and moss-covered rocks, it has long been a beloved site associated with local faith and the lives of villagers. There are various theories about the origin of the name, but it is said to come from "Mitarashi," a place where one can purify one's hands before the gods and a place where clear water springs forth.
In recent years, walking paths and suspension bridges have been constructed, making it a popular tourist destination where visitors can easily enjoy the beauty of the valley. Depending on the conditions, the water can appear a deep blue or deep blue, and there are many photogenic spots, making it especially popular with camera enthusiasts and those who enjoy nature walks.
