Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Saitama Super Arena is one of Japan's leading multi-purpose arenas, located in Chuo Ward, Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture. Since opening in 2000, it has been used for a wide range of purposes, including concerts, sports (martial arts, basketball, tennis, etc.), exhibitions, and events. Its unique feature is its movable seating and floor structure, which allows it to be flexibly transformed from a hall accommodating several thousand people to an arena accommodating tens of thousands, making it one of the largest venues in Japan in terms of capacity and convenience.

Additionally, there are restaurants and an event plaza (Keyaki Hiroba) on and off the premises, as well as the adjacent shopping mall "Cocoon City," making it convenient for dining and shopping before and after an event. Easily accessible from central Tokyo, the venue is popular for live concerts and international conventions in the greater Tokyo area.

Highlights

  • The scale of the variable arena: The appeal is that the atmosphere changes dramatically depending on the stage layout and seating. The sound design and lighting effects are also excellent, making it ideal for watching live performances.
  • Keyaki Hiroba (outdoor plaza): During events, it is often used as a place for food stalls, merchandise sales, and fan interaction, making it a convenient outdoor meeting spot or a place to take a break.
  • Nearby commercial facilities: Cocoon City is directly connected to the station, and there are plenty of restaurants in the surrounding area, so you'll have no trouble finding something to eat or shop for.
  • Large-scale event atmosphere: A wide variety of events are held here, including tours by domestic and international artists, international sporting events, and large-scale exhibitions. The whole city comes alive on event days.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest stations: JR Saitama-Shintoshin Station and Kita-Yono Station. Both stations are a few minutes to 10 minutes on foot (the venue area is generally accessed by walking from the station).
  • From Tokyo: Approx. 30-40 minutes by JR (varies depending on transfers and departure stations). Please check the transfer information for more details.
  • By car: Accessible via the Metropolitan Expressway and national highways. Although there are paid parking lots in the area, they often fill up during events, so we recommend using public transportation.
  • Shuttles/Special services: During large-scale events, there may be special buses and trains, and increased guidance and announcements from the nearest station to the venue. Please check the organizer's information.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • Concerts and sporting events: The event itself typically lasts 2-4 hours. Including waiting to enter, merchandise sales, and time to get home, it's safe to plan for a total of 4-6 hours.
  • Exhibitions and events (full-day): These often require half a day to a full day (3 to 8 hours).
  • Days without events (wandering around the area): Approximately 1-2 hours, including dining and shopping at Keyaki Hiroba and Cocoon City.

Nearby spots

  • Cocoon City (Shopping Mall): Full of restaurants, movie theaters, and shops. Convenient for before and after events.
  • Keyaki Hiroba: This outdoor plaza often hosts seasonal events and food markets.
  • Food and drink district in the Saitama Shintoshin area: There are many restaurants that are perfect for lunch and dinner.
  • Omiya area (a few minutes by train): If you have a little more time, you can explore the Railway Museum, Hikawa Shrine, Omiya Park, and more.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: The station and surrounding areas can be extremely crowded during popular performances and on weekends. We recommend arriving early to avoid crowds at the entrance and exit, long lines, and crowded public transportation.
  • Ticket rules and restrictions on what can be brought in: Restrictions on what can be brought in (cameras, recording devices, dangerous items, etc.), re-entry restrictions, and baggage inspections vary for each performance. Please be sure to check with the organizer and ticket information in advance.
  • Parking: There are limited parking spaces, and they tend to fill up on event days. Using public transportation is safe and reliable.
  • Outdoor weather: Outdoor spaces such as Keyaki Hiroba are subject to rain and temperature changes. Please bring appropriate clothing and rain gear for the season.
  • Manners: Please be considerate of others both indoors and outdoors (take your trash with you, behave respectfully in your seat, and follow the rules regarding photography). In particular, when watching live concerts or sporting events, please be mindful not to obstruct other attendees' views.
  • Check the latest information: Event times, admission procedures, COVID-19 countermeasures, etc. may change. Please be sure to check the official website and information from the organizers.
