Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Tobu World Square is a miniature theme park located in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture (Kinugawa Onsen area). It brings together all the world's famous buildings and historical sites in elaborate scale models, allowing tourists to virtually experience traveling around the world, which is a major attraction. Many of the buildings are reproduced at 1/25 scale, and with meticulous attention to detail and miniature people and vehicles, you can enjoy the atmosphere of the real thing up close. Seasonal illuminations, special exhibitions, and events are also held, making it popular with a wide range of people, from families to photography enthusiasts and architecture lovers.

Highlights

  • Miniatures of famous buildings from around the world: You can get a compact view of famous buildings such as the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, the Pyramids, the Great Wall of China, and Big Ben (exhibition content may change depending on the season).
  • Japan Zone: Reproductions of famous Japanese landmarks such as Himeji Castle, Kinkakuji Temple, and Horyuji Temple are also included. The attraction is being able to see all of Japan's historical buildings together.
  • Precise diorama representation: Not only the buildings, but also miniature people, cars, cityscapes, and seasonal representations are all carefully crafted, making it never boring to look at.
  • Events and illuminations: There are nighttime illuminations and seasonal events (cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, Christmas, etc.) held, allowing you to enjoy a different atmosphere than during the day.
  • Photo spot: There are many subjects that can be enjoyed with both telephoto and wide-angle lenses, making it suitable for taking snapshots and landscape photos.
  • Museum Shop and Restaurant: There is also a facility where you can enjoy original goods and light meals.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)

  • Nearest station: Tobu Railway Tobu World Square Station (or Kinugawa Onsen Station). Accessible from either station on foot, by shuttle bus, or by taxi. *Operation status and departure and arrival stations may change, so please check official information in advance.
  • Train: From Tokyo, take the Tobu Line's limited express train (such as "Kinu" depending on the section) to the Kinugawa area. The travel time varies depending on your boarding location and the type of train.
  • By car: Access via the Tohoku Expressway or the Nikko-Utsunomiya Expressway. Parking is available, so it is convenient to visit by car (we recommend checking the number of parking spaces and fees in advance).
  • Buses and sightseeing routes: There are local buses and sightseeing buses available from various tourist spots in Kinugawa Onsen and Nikko.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)

  • If you want to look around thoroughly, it will take about 2 to 3 hours. If you plan to take lots of photos or participate in an event, you will need more time.
  • If you want to go around the whole area, it will take about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  • If you have children or plan to take your time, it's best to plan at least three hours, including breaks.

Nearby spots

  • Kinugawa Onsen area: Enjoy strolling around the hot spring town or staying overnight and visiting the hot springs.
  • Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Futarasan Shrine, and Rinnoji Temple: Historical spots in Nikko that are registered as World Heritage Sites (convenient to travel by car).
  • Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji (including Senjogahara): A representative spot in Nikko National Park where you can enjoy the natural scenery.
  • Nikko Edo Village (Edo Wonderland): A historical experience theme park popular with families.
  • Local tourist attractions include Ryozetsu (Ryuzu Falls) and Kawaji Onsen.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)

  • Crowds: The area tends to be crowded during consecutive holidays, tourist seasons (Golden Week, summer vacation, autumn foliage season, New Year's holidays), and weekends. Please allow plenty of time for your trip as you may have to wait for parking or to enter the area.
  • Weather and clothing: As most of the exhibits are outdoors, they can be affected by the weather. Be sure to bring rain gear, comfortable shoes, and appropriate winter clothing for the season.
  • Handling of models: As the models are intricate, please follow the rules of not touching or riding on them. Please be especially careful to keep an eye on small children.
  • Photography etiquette: Photography is generally permitted, but please refrain from using flash or ladders, etc., as this may cause inconvenience to others. Photography for commercial purposes may require prior confirmation.
  • Barrier-free access and strollers: There are steps and slopes in some areas of the park, so if you are using a wheelchair or stroller, please check the park's information in advance. Rentals may also be available.
  • Pets: There may be restrictions on pets allowed in. Please check in advance.
