Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Jogashima Lighthouse is a landmark for maritime traffic on Jogashima Island in Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and is located in a scenic spot offering panoramic views of the surrounding cliffs and Sagami Bay. It is one of Japan's modern lighthouses, constructed during the Meiji period, and its towering white lighthouse is the island's landmark. The area around the lighthouse is lined with sea cliffs and rocky areas, and its charm lies in the coexistence of rugged seascapes and tranquil fishing village scenery. On clear days, you can enjoy panoramic views that stretch all the way to Mount Fuji and the Boso Peninsula, making it a popular spot for evening and night views.

Highlights
– The lighthouse itself: The white tower, corridor, and lamp (exterior) are great photo spots. Since the interior is often closed to the public, you can take your time to photograph the exterior and surrounding scenery.
– Observation point: View of Sagami Bay and Uraga Strait from near the lighthouse and from the high ground on the island. The light in the early morning and evening is beautiful.
- Marine erosion: Umanose Cave, rocky shoreline, and tide pools where you can play on the rocks (at low tide). You can observe the beauty of nature's formations up close.
- Wildlife: Observe seabirds and creatures living in the intertidal zone. The seasonal changes in the ocean are also a highlight.
– Nearby walking paths: You can enjoy the view of the lighthouse and the island by walking through Jogashima Park and the promenade.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
– Train + bus (general route)
- Nearest station: Misakiguchi Station on the Keikyu Line
– Take the Keikyu Bus (towards Jogashima) from Misakiguchi Station and get off at Jogashima Iriguchi or Jogashima bus stop. Cross the bridge and walk to the lighthouse (approximately 15 minutes by bus, then a 10-20 minute walk).
- car
– From Yokohama or Yokosuka, take National Route 134 and cross Jogashima Bridge. There is a paid parking lot on the island (it may fill up during peak season, so we recommend arriving early).
- others
– Some people visit from the surrounding area for hiking or cycling. Public transportation may be limited at certain times, so be sure to check the timetable in advance.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)
- Short visit: 30-45 minutes to just see the exterior of the lighthouse.
- Including strolling around the surrounding area: 1.5 to 3 hours if you visit Jogashima Park, Umanose Cave Gate, and the observation deck.
- If you plan to take your time and take photos and eat meals, allow yourself half a day (3-4 hours).

Nearby spots
– Jogashima Park: A park where you can enjoy an observation deck, walking trails, and seasonal flowers.
– Umanose Cave and Rocky Shore: A typical spot of sea erosion. Popular for playing on the rocks and taking photos.
– Misaki Port (Urari Market): We recommend stopping by before or after crossing to Jogashima to sample fresh seafood and Misaki tuna.
- Restaurants and souvenir shops in Jogashima: There are many restaurants serving seafood dishes that are unique to a fishing port.
- Nearby lighthouses and coastlines (e.g., the area around Tsurugisaki and the coastline of the Miura Peninsula): These are great for a drive around.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
– Crowds: On weekends, holidays, during the summer, and during Golden Week, the number of tourists increases, and parking lots and buses become crowded. Visiting early in the morning or on weekdays is relatively quiet.
- Manners: To protect the environment, be sure to take your trash with you, do not harm plants or creatures living in rocky areas, and do not enter restricted areas.
- Safety: Cliffs and rocky areas are slippery and unstable. Wear shoes with sturdy soles and pay attention to the tide and wave heights. Do not go near cliffs when there is a strong wind.
Climate and clothing: The sea breeze is strong, making the temperature feel low. In summer, the sun is strong, so you'll need a hat and sun protection, and in winter, windproof clothing.
- Facility information: The interior of the lighthouse is often closed to the public, so please check the opening dates and times in advance. There are limited restrooms and restaurants, so it's a good idea to bring some drinks and snacks.

Please use the above information to safely enjoy Jogashima Lighthouse and the surrounding nature and scenery. If necessary, we will also provide detailed access information such as timetables and parking locations.
