Chusonji Temple is an ancient Tendai Buddhist temple located in Hiraizumi, Iwate Prefecture, and was founded in the Heian period by Fujiwara no Kiyohira, the founder of the Oshu Fujiwara clan. The Golden Hall in particular is known for its architectural beauty, covered entirely in gold leaf, and its exquisite carvings and craftsmanship, and was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 as part of the "Cultural Heritage of Hiraizumi." In addition to its historical and religious value, the temple grounds, which blend in with nature throughout the seasons, leave visitors with a tranquil and magnificent impression.

• Golden Hall (the highlight of the visit): Photography is generally prohibited inside, but the exterior is a gorgeous structure covered in gold leaf. It has the weight of a mausoleum housing the remains and artifacts of the Fujiwara clan. A combined admission ticket is required for both the Treasure Hall (Treasure Museum) and the temple.

• Nearest station: JR Tohoku Main Line (Tohoku Main Line), Hiraizumi Station (English: HIRAIZUMI Station).
• By trainIf you're using the Tohoku Shinkansen, head to Ichinoseki Station or Hiraizumi Station via Ichinoseki and Hiraizumi. The nearest station to the Shinkansen is Ichinoseki Station, from where you can take a local train to Hiraizumi Station or take a bus. It takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to get to Ichinoseki from Tokyo by Shinkansen (depending on the train).
• Transfer from the stationIt takes about 20 to 30 minutes to walk from Hiraizumi Station to Chusonji Temple. Local buses and taxis also run from in front of the station (extra buses may run during the tourist season).
• Cars and parkingAccess: From the Tohoku Expressway, Hiraizumi Maesawa IC. There is a paid parking lot (for cars and buses) at Chusonji Temple, but it may be full during peak hours.

• Visitor etiquette: Photography is generally prohibited inside the Golden Hall and the Treasure Exhibition Room. Please follow the instructions of the staff and notices posted, and worship quietly.
• congestion: The temple is particularly crowded during Golden Week, autumn foliage season, and consecutive holidays. Please plan your visit with plenty of time as you may have to wait in line for parking and at the ticket counter.
• Feet and clothing: The temple grounds have many stone steps and slopes, and there are some unstable areas. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Be careful of snow and ice in rainy weather and in winter.
• Barrier-free: Some of the approaches and buildings have steps and narrow passages, making it difficult for wheelchair users to move around. If you inquire in advance, you may be able to receive guidance.
• Seasonal precautions: In winter, snow and ice can limit your ability to visit the shrine or sightsee in the surrounding area. Also, be sure to take precautions against pollen in spring and the heat in summer (drinking water and sunshades).
