Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Echigo Hillside Park is a vast suburban natural park located in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. It has been developed to take advantage of the local satoyama and hilly terrain, and is filled with flowers and greenery throughout the seasons, spacious lawns and walking paths, as well as play equipment and interactive facilities for children. The park was developed with the aim of promoting the local area and protecting nature, and its appeal lies in the fact that it offers a rich natural environment and relaxing scenery despite being located near the city. With a variety of seasonal changes, including flower fields in spring, greenery in summer, autumn leaves, and tranquil snowscapes in winter, the park is popular with a wide range of people, including families, couples, and photography enthusiasts.

Highlights
- Flower Field Area: Large flower fields are maintained each season, featuring tulips, nemophila, cosmos, rape blossoms, and more, making it a great photo spot.
- Hilly walking trails: The undulating trails have observation spots where you can get a panoramic view of the park, making them ideal for walking or light hiking.
- Lawn Square/Picnic Zone: Enjoy picnics, play frisbee, and play with your children on the spacious lawn. Events and seasonal festivals are also held here.
– Children's playground and play area: There are slides and large play equipment, and plenty of facilities for children to play safely.
- Experience programs: Nature observation events, gardening classes, and seasonal workshops (please check) are sometimes held, so it is a good idea to check the schedule in advance.
- Bird watching and nature observation: There are areas where you can observe the Satoyama ecosystem and are also suitable for bird watching.

Access (nearest station, transportation, etc.)
– The nearest major station is Nagaoka Station (JR Shinetsu Main Line/Joetsu Shinkansen). It is about 20-30 minutes by car from Nagaoka Station (depending on road conditions). There is a parking lot, so it is convenient to access by car.
– If you are using public transportation, local buses and special shuttles may operate from Nagaoka Station and surrounding bus stops (this may only occur seasonally or during events). Please check the bus schedule and operating status in advance with the official website or route operator.
- If you are taking a taxi, it is a good idea to check the estimated time and fare from Nagaoka Station in advance.
– If you are visiting by bicycle, we recommend planning a route that suits your physical strength as the park is hilly.

Estimated stay (estimated time required)
- Short walk: 1-2 hours (to take a quick look around the flower fields and observation spots)
- Leisurely sightseeing/picnic: Half a day to 3-4 hours (relaxing on the grass and participating in experience programs)
- Thorough photography, nature observation, and event participation: 1 day (when combining seasonal events and workshops)
The length of stay varies greatly depending on the season and purpose (cherry blossom viewing, picnic, children playing, photography, etc.).

Nearby spots
– Nagaoka City Center: Restaurants, souvenir shops, historical sites, etc. around Nagaoka Station (20-30 minutes by car).
- Local roadside stations and farm shops: There are many farm shops and restaurants selling local agricultural and marine products. They are convenient for purchasing ingredients and taking a break during your visit.
– Surrounding Satoyama and walking trails: Satoyama scenery extends beyond the park, making it a great place for driving or cycling.
(You can enhance your stay by combining the Nagaoka fireworks with sightseeing spots in the city according to your visit plans.)

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Crowds: Crowds are expected during the peak flower viewing season in spring, Golden Week, summer vacation, autumn foliage season, and on event days. Parking lots may fill up, so we recommend arriving early.
- Manners: In most areas, it is prohibited to enter flower beds and planted areas. Please be careful not to damage the flowers and plants, and please take your trash home with you or use the designated trash cans.
- Pets: There are rules for pets in each area of the park. Please follow the rules, such as keeping pets on a leash and taking their droppings home with you (see official information for details).
- Weather and clothing: As the area is hilly, there may be windy days and the weather may change suddenly. It is recommended to bring comfortable shoes and clothing, as well as rain gear and cold weather gear. In the summer, it is best to bring insect repellent.
– Barrier-free access: The park is hilly, so moving around with a wheelchair or stroller can be inconvenient in some places. Please check in advance about the necessary facilities and routes.
- Check the latest information: Opening hours, admission fees, temporary closures, and event information may change depending on the season or year. Please check the latest information at the official website or park management office before visiting.

Official information and event information is subject to change, so we recommend checking the latest information on the Echigo Hillside Park official website or Nagaoka City tourist information before visiting.
