Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)

Lake Kawaguchiko, one of the Fuji Five Lakes in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture, is a particularly famous tourist destination with its scenic backdrop of Mount Fuji. The lake is a dammed lake formed by the impact of glaciers and massive volcanic activity, and has developed since ancient times in conjunction with the surrounding lifestyles and culture. The lake's diverse views, including the changing faces of Mount Fuji throughout the seasons, flower fields and autumn leaves, night views, and upside-down Mount Fuji, attract many tourists from both Japan and abroad. The lakeside is home to a variety of tourist facilities, including hot springs, art museums, sightseeing boats, and restaurants, making it a convenient base for sightseeing.
