Overview (history, characteristics, attractions)
Shinhotaka Ropeway is a two-stage (two consecutive lines) ropeway located in Okuhida Onsenkyo, Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, which takes you up to an observation deck at an altitude of approximately 2,150m. Its greatest attraction is the close-up view of the majestic mountain range of the Northern Alps (Hida Mountains), and it is popular for its scenery that changes with the seasons. There is an observation deck, shop, and restaurant at the top of the mountain, making it a tourist base where you can easily enjoy the view of the alpine belt.

Things to be aware of (crowds, manners, seasonal precautions, etc.)
- Weather changes: Weather conditions on the mountain can change suddenly, and the ropeway may be suspended due to fog or strong winds. Be sure to check the operating status and weather forecast before setting off.
- Clothing and equipment: Due to the high altitude and low temperatures, bring a jacket and warm clothing even in summer. In winter, non-slip shoes and cold weather gear are essential.
- Crowds: The trains tend to be crowded during the autumn foliage season, Golden Week, the summer tourist season, and consecutive holidays, and you may have to wait at the ticket counter or board the train. However, it is relatively smoother to use the trains early in the morning or on weekdays.
- Risk of altitude sickness: You may feel fatigue or have a headache due to the difference in altitude. Don't push yourself too hard, stay hydrated, and take breaks.
- Consideration for climbers: It is dangerous to attempt an advanced course without adequate equipment. Please plan your climb well in advance and take into account the weather and your physical condition.
- Manners: When visiting observation decks and narrow passages, please be considerate of others when it is crowded, take your trash with you, and protect the natural environment.
- Pets: Some facilities have restrictions on boarding, so please check in advance if you plan to bring your pets.
We recommend checking the Shinhotaka Ropeway's official website for operating information (opening hours, days off, fees, parking information, etc.) before your visit. Please enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Northern Alps while taking safety into consideration.
